Acrotac 25 mg is a prescription medicine for adults with severe psoriasis. Psoriasis is a skin disorder that causes skin cells to grow faster than normal, forming a rush of skin cells on the surface. The skin appears red, inflamed, irritated, thicker, and sometimes silvery patches. Acrotac contains Acitretin that reduces the scaly, itchy, patchy and other symptoms of inflammation (redness, swelling, or irritation) that may develop on different body parts.
Precautions of acrotac 25 mg tablet
Do not get pregnant while receiving Acrotac capsules and for three years after treatment discontinuation. Do not breastfeed during the treatment. Women of reproductive potential should not drink alcohol. Do not donate blood during treatment and for three years after treatment discontinuation. Other women with reproductive potential must not receive blood from patients receiving Acitretin. Avoid driving if you develop sudden vision issues. Do not take dietary supplements containing vitamin A. Avoid progestin-only birth control pills.
Side effects of acrotac 25 mg tablet
If you develop any of these side effects or any unusual reaction, check with your doctor to find out if you need to change the amount of Acitretin you take. These side effects usually get better if the dose of this medicine is reduced or the medicine is stopped.
- Dry mouth
- Joint pain
- Tight muscles
- Chapped lips, peeling palms, fingertips, and soles, itching, weak nails, scaly skin, runny or dry nose, sticky or fragile skin, nosebleeds.
- Dry eyes- Acitretin may cause dry eyes. Contact lenses may be unsuitable during and after treatment with Acrotac because of the dry eye issue. If this happens, take off your contact lenses and contact your doctor.
- Increased blood fats (lipids) - Acitretin causes your blood fats to rise. Most of the time, the condition is not serious. But sometimes, the increase can cause serious concerns. You should have blood tests as directed by your doctor.
Serious side effects do not happen often, but they can lead to permanent damage or rarely to death. Stop taking Acrotac capsules and call your doctor right away if you get the following symptoms:
- Bad headaches, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision
- Vision problems, decreased vision in the dark
- Depression
- Shortness of breath, nausea, weakness, trouble speaking, chest pain, dizziness, or swelling of legs.
- Frequent urination, great thirst or hunger

How to use acrotac 25 mg tablet
Please read the description carefully provided by your doctor for proper dosage instructions and other additional information. Generally, Acrotac 25 mg should be taken with food. Be sure to take the capsule as prescribed. Once you stop taking Acrotac, your psoriasis may return. Do not treat new psoriasis with leftover medicine. It is important to see your doctor again for treatment recommendations because your condition may have changed.
The medicine might not work right away. It might take up to 2 to 3 months before your skin may appear to improve. Psoriasis gets worse for some patients during the initial days of the treatment. Acitretin has not been studied in children. Because Acrotac 25 mg can have serious side effects, you should speak to your doctor if it is appropriate.
