Aquazide 12.5mg

Aquazide 12.5mg is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure and remove excess fluid from the body. Hydrochlorothiazide is the main active ingredient present in Aquazide 12.5 mg.

The uses of Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg include:

• High blood pressure (hypertension):

It is clinically tested for treating high blood pressure either as monotherapy or to increase the effectiveness of other high blood pressure medicines in the more severe forms of hypertension.

• Peripheral edema (fluid retention)

The medication treats peripheral edema associated with heart failure, nephrotic syndromes (kidney disorder), corticosteroids, or estrogen therapy. Loop diuretics are generally used as first-line treatment for edema, and Acquazide () is utilized as adjunctive therapy.    

Working mechanisam of Hydrochlorothiazide:

Hydrochlorothiazide is a medication that receives the approval of the US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for treating hypertension (high blood pressure) and peripheral edema. It is a thiazide-type antihypertensive diuretic that has been shown to reduce major cardiovascular events. Hydrochlorothiazide increases how much you pee by helping the kidneys eliminate electrolytes, such as sodium and water, from the body. It also allows blood to flow more easily, which may help lower blood pressure.

Aquazide 12.5mg should not be used in cases of anuria (when you produce very little or no pee) or preexisting sulfonamide allergy. It should be used with caution in patients with severe hepatic insufficiency because of the risk of developing hepatic coma. In patients with underlying adrenal insufficiency, Hydrochlorothiazide treatment is contraindicated.   

If electrolytes are low, including potassium or sodium, hydrochlorothiazide may not be safe to use. Patients undergoing Aquazide treatment should be monitored regularly for electrolyte imbalance, including potassium, magnesium, and sodium. 

Regular use of diuretics in normal pregnant women is inappropriate and exposes the mother and the unborn child to unnecessary hazards. 

Avoid taking the Aquazide tablet while you are breastfeeding, as it can pass into the breast milk. Tell your healthcare professional if you are a nursing mother or plan to breastfeed.

• High blood pressure medicine
• An opioid, including morphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, and codeine, which is effective against certain types of pain.
• Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like naproxen, ibuprofen, and others are contained in many prescription and over-the-counter products for pain, fever, and swelling.
• Lithium is used for certain mental health problems
• A corticosteroid such as methylprednisolone, dexamethasone, or methylprednisolone for treating certain inflammatory conditions.
• A water pill to reduce edema and blood pressure
• Digoxin is used to treat irregular heartbeats and some types of heart failure.

Your doctor should also know if you suffer any of the following conditions: 

• Liver problems
• Abnormal heart rhythm
• Low electrolytes, including sodium and potassium
• Gout
• Kidney problems
• Heart failure
• Diabetes
• Persistent or severe vomiting or diarrhea leading to dehydration
• A reduced need to pee
• Prostate problems

Do not share this medicine with others, even if they are in the same condition. It may cause unwanted effects and harm them. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children. Hydrochlorothiazide can affect your alertness or coordination until you know how this medication affects you. People aged 65 years or older are at high risk of developing adverse reactions associated with it. Speak to your healthcare specialist if you belong to this age group.

Thiazide diuretics may make your skin sensitive to sun rays and tools that offer similar lights, like tanning beds and sunlamps, while you are taking certain medications, including hydrochlorothiazide. To avoid such photosensitivity associated with Aquazide, wear sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and protective clothing that covers your skin if you are required to be in the sunlight. Speak to your healthcare specialist regarding checkups for skin cancer.

How should Aquazide 12.5mg be taken?

Aquazide 12.5mg is usually taken by mouth once per day in the morning or as directed by your physician. It is advisable to take it at least 4 hours before bedtime to forbid wakeup to urinate. Aquazide tablets can be taken with or without meal but should be taken with a whole glass of water. Do not step taking medication without consulting your physician, even if you feel better.

How long should you take Aquazide 12.5mg?

Continue taking Aquazide 12.5mg for as long as your physician recommends.

Missed dose of Aquazide 12.5mg

If you have missed to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time near your next dose, then skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule prescribed by physician. Never overdoses by intake of two doses at same time.

How should Aquazide 12.5mg be stored?

Side effects of Aquazide 12.5mg

The most common side effects of Aquazide include:

• Low blood pressure
• An increase in how much you pee

• Short-sightedness and glaucoma
