Axcer 60 mg
Axcer 60 mg is used to prevent heart problems such as myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular death in patients with a history of myocardial infarction and a high risk of developing these heart conditions. It contains the active substance Ticagrelor, a group of medications known as antiplatelets. The class of drugs is known to reduce the formation of harmful blood clots in blood vessels. This helps prevent a range of conditions associated with suddenly reduced blood flow to the heart. Patients taking Axcer should also take a daily low maintenance dose of 75 to 150 mg of acetylsalicylic acid unless specifically contraindicated.
How to use Axcer 60 mg?
Axcer 60 mg is for oral use and can be taken with or without food. Your doctor will also prescribe aspirin, another antiplatelet drug, along with this medicine. You may ask to start treatment with Axcer 60 twice daily, regardless of their previous antiplatelet regimen. You should discontinue their current antiplatelet therapy before initiating Ticagrelor therapy with low acetyl acid at the next scheduled dose.
It is important to keep taking medicine even if you have no symptoms. Treatment discontinuation without a doctor’s consent may increase your chances of having another heart attack or stroke. Lapses in Ticagrelor therapy should be avoided. A patient who misses a dose of this medicine should take the next dose at its scheduled time.
What precautions should be taken?
Do not take Axcer if any of the following applies to you:
- Hypersensitivity to Ticagrelor or any of the excipients of the medicine
- Have active bleeding such as an ulcer or intracranial haemorrhage
- Have moderate to severe hepatic impairment
- Taking other medicines such as ritonavir, nefazodone, clarithromycin, and atazanavir
The safety and effectiveness of Axcer in children below 18 years have not been established. No dose adjustment is required in elderly patients and patients with renal and hepatic insufficiency.
What are the side effects of Axcer 60 mg?
The most common side effect seen with Axcer is bleeding. If you cut or injure yourself, it may take longer than usual for the bleeding to stop. Such bleeding episodes are mild and usually resolves after a few days of initiating the treatment.
