Azithromycin Tablet 250 Mg Uses

Azithromycin is an antibiotic medication that fights bacteria. It belongs to a group of antibiotics known as macrolides, which are known to treat bacterial infections. These infections include:

  • Infections of the throat, tonsils, ears, and sinus
  • Chest infections such as pneumonia and bronchitis
  • Skin and soft tissue infections
  • Urinary infection

The medication will not treat viral infections like colds and flu. Misuse of this antibiotic medication leads to decreased effectiveness.

Use Azithromycin properly:

Patients are instructed to read the information leaflet the healthcare specialist gives before taking medicine. If you doubt using the medicine, consult your healthcare provider.

Generally, Azithromycin 250 mg is taken orally daily with or without food. In the case of stomach upset, taking this antibiotic medication with food is recommended. The dosing regimen is based on the patient’s medical condition and his/her response to the treatment.

Keep on taking the medicine until the entire prescribed lot is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days of the treatment. Consult your healthcare specialist each time you get a refill.

Discontinuing the drug too early may allow the bacteria to grow, ultimately resulting in the infection’s return. To get the maximum benefit, take your antibiotic tablet at evenly spaced times as directed by your health care provider.

To help you remember, consider taking medicine at the same time every day. Be careful if you are taking an antacid containing magnesium or aluminum because taking an antacid at the same time may decrease the absorption of Azithromycin. So, waiting at least two hours before or after consuming your antibiotic medication is better. If your condition persists or worsens, call your healthcare specialist straight away.

Are there any side effects of Azithromycin?

A patient needs emergency medical help if signs of allergic reactions develop. These include trouble breathing, hives, and swelling of your face, throat, lips, and tongue.

Discontinue Azithromycin and speak to your health care specialist if you have serious side effects such as a headache with chest pain, diarrhea, fast or pounding heartbeats, jaundice, upper stomach pain, severe skin reaction, dark urine, clay-colored stools, etc.

The list of less serious adverse effects includes vomiting, constipation, stomach upset, vaginal itching or discharge, mild rash, insomnia, dizziness, mild headache, ringing in the ears, decreased sense of smell, etc.

Other important information

A patient should not use the medication if he/she has ever had jaundice or liver problems caused by consuming azithromycin. In case of hypersensitivity to similar drugs like clarithromycin, erythromycin, or telithromycin, avoid using azithromycin.

Certain drugs can interact with your antibiotic medication. Tell your healthcare professional about all the medications that you use. These include prescription, over-the-counter drugs, herbal products, or vitamin supplements. Do not start a new treatment without informing your healthcare provider. If you are already using some medication to treat your other health condition, then it is necessary to keep a list of all your medications and show it to your healthcare provider.
