How long does it take for Bimatoprost to grow eyelashes?

Women across the world often desire beautiful eyelashes. Until recently, the options available to enhance the prominence of eyelashes were limited to makeup, artificial eyelashes, and eyelash extensions. Originally approved and clinically tested for treating ocular hypertension, the prostamide Bimatoprost has now been approved to treat hypotrichosis of eyelashes (inadequate eyelashes or insufficient eyelashes). Bimatoprost ophthalmic solution 0.03%, applied once nightly to the skin of the upper eyelid margin with the help of an applicator, increases eyelash growth, including length, thickness, and darkness.

It is important to review the normal eyelash growth cycle to understand the workings of underlying normal eyelash growth.

The eyelash hair cycle can be divided into three phases: anagen, catagen, and telogen. Anagen is a growth that determines the length of eyelashes. The length of anagen is somewhere around one to two months. Melanogenesis and the subsequent pigment transfer from melanocyte cells occur only during anagen. During the catagen phase, the hair follicle will shrink, and the lash will stop growing. This phase typically lasts 2 to 3 weeks, following catagen, eyelashes telogen, the resting phase of the hair cycle. During this phase, the follicle remains dormant. The telogen phase has been reported to last from a hundred days to nine months.

However, the precise mechanism by which a bimatoprost ophthalmic solution of 0.03% increases eyelash growth has not been fully understood. It is believed to alter the eyelash hair cycle. Research suggests that an increased proportion of follicles being in anagen is accompanied by a decrease in the proportion of follicles being in a growth phase, along with a decrease in the proportion of hair follicles in the telogen or resting phase. These findings suggest that bimatoprost solution stimulates the transition from resting to growth phase and extends the growth phase, thereby contributing to eyelash growth. The findings are consistent with the bimatoprost-associated increased eyelash thickness observed in clinical trials. Increased eyelash darkness results from increased melanin production.

Treatment with Bimatoprost does not increase the original number of eyelash follicles. Still, it is possible that the eyelash growth careprost increases the number of visible hairs due to an increased speed at which eyelashes are replaced, and the increased time remains in the follicle.

Results with Bimatoprost

Like many medicines, the results of Bimatoprost are not instant. It typically takes up to three to four months before you see the complete effects of the medicine. This eyelash growth solution is used gradually, and most people will not see any results until week four. The first noticeable change to be seen is usually in eyelash length. After continued use, darkness and thickness in lashes will appear. At week sixteen, you will be able to see the full effects of the solution.

Effectiveness and Safety

Roughly 80% of users see results with this eyelash growth product, meaning that around 20% do not see the desired or no results. There may be several reasons these people do not get the results they were expecting, including:

Out of these issues, some can be corrected for sure. For example, you can use genuine Bimatoprost by getting it from an authentic website, or you can use it correctly by receiving proper instructions and following them. Other things can’t be corrected, though. This medicine will not work for some, and no known reason exists. You most likely will not see any if you have not seen visible improvement in week eight.

Pregnant and nursing women should not use this eye care medicine in any way because of hormonal changes. People with certain eye conditions should not use this medicine, and those with eye conditions like glaucoma should check with a care specialist before using the eyelash growth serum. If you have an eye infection, you should not use this product because you are at high risk of making the infection worse or keeping it from properly healing. Once your infection resolves, you can use the product once your healthcare provider approves you. If the infection recurs, you should discontinue its use again. Furthermore, topically applied Bimatoprost solution appears to be related to a lower incidence of adverse effects than using this medicine as an eyedrop.
