How long does Azithromycin take to work?

Azithromycin is used for infectious disorders caused by bacteria, such as respiratory disorders, ear infections, skin infections, and sexually transmitted disorders. This medicine should not be taken if you had jaundice or liver problems. Azithromycin falls into the category of drugs known as macrolide antibiotics, and it works by stopping the growth of bacteria. It does not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.

What is the Duration of action?

Azithromycin has 18-24 hour action. But it depends on the patient disease and the drug can metabolize sooner. The drug acts by preventing protein synthesis of the bacteria, so if the concentration is high, that bacteria won’t be able to make new enzymes in time before the next dose is administered. And hence the azithromycin 100mg will destroy the bacteria as bacterias won’t have protein to survive. The drug takes around 3 days to work. For severe infections, the drug is prescribed as frequently as twice a day for 5 days, but in general not more than 5 days. It is a rather strong antibiotic.

Usage of Azithromycin

It is available in the form of a tablet, an extended-release (long-acting) suspension (liquid), and a suspension (liquid) to take by mouth. The tablet and suspension are usually taken with or without food once a day for 1 -5 days. The tablets are usually consumed with or without food once a week.

The extended-release suspension is usually taken without food on an empty stomach at least one hour or two hours before the meal. Take medicine as prescribed by the doctor never take more or less.
