Migraine Home Remedies

Migraine is a  deadly headache that is among the world’s 20 most disabling medical conditions. Apart from the medicines, you must also be aware of all the home remedies to shoot down a migraine whenever it crops up.

Migraine headaches are very difficult to deal with as these are characterised by severe throbbing pain, and it tends to get worse with the workload and movement. A simple migraine attack may last for 4-72 hours.  In order to manage migraine pain, it is very necessary to maintain the lifestyle, behaviour and medication altogether.

Migraine home remedies

Here are some quick remedies of Migraine, that will prove beneficial for you and provide you relief from migraine pain:

1.    Environmental changes: Turn off the lights as too much of lightning in the house is often going to increase the sensitivity of eyes to the light.  Keep your environment calm as any high volume is going to trigger a migraine to occur the most. To calm down and relax, you can also opt for a quick nap. This quick nap works wonders to a headache if it is taken in a dark and quiet room.

2.    Apple cider vinegar: Apple cider vinegar is known to reduce migraine pains as it is high in nutrition. Apple cider vinegar is also good for the detoxification of the toxic substances from the body, lower the high blood sugar levels, control hypertension, reduce the weight of the bone and also promote weight loss.

Method to use:

•    Take a glass full of water, pour in a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar

•    Mix the required amount of honey

•  Drink this mixture daily to prevent any migraine attacks and reduce the intensity of migraine attacks.

3.    Ice pack:

Using an ice pack is also a famous method to get rid of migraine headaches. This effect is so good that it alleviates the pain by numbing the area.

Method to use:

•    Take a few ice cubes and wrap them in a fresh, clean towel

•    Place the wrapped towel on the temple and forehead or your neck in the back

•    Keep repeating the process as long as required

•    Alternative a hot compress can also be used

4.    Peppermint:

It has an anti-inflammatory property. The anti-inflammatory property of peppermint has a soothing and calming effect on the nerves. It soothes the nerves and reduces a migraine headache. It is yet another very easy to use home and natural remedy for migraine headaches.

Method to use:

•    Prepare a peppermint tea and use honey to sweeten it. Drink this tea daily or as required

•   Peppermint oil is a great product for the treatment of headaches. You just need to apply the oil at the site of pain or on the temples in case of headaches. Massage for a few minutes and leave it on for at least 20-30 minutes.

5.    Ginger:

Ginger is a common, very effective treatment for common migraines. Ginger is known to block the prostaglandins and the hormones that are involved in the inflammation of blood vessels in the brain. Most of the medicines that are designed to relieve the pain (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) also work by reducing the production of these chemicals.

Method to use:

•    Ginger tea is a natural remedy for pain in the body. It acts as a relaxant and reduces a headache due to migraines.

•    Ginger is also a good remedy for stomach distress and nausea

6.    Chamomile:

It is an anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic medicinal herb. The tea made up of chamomile is known to relieve the migraines and it is also known to prevent the problem. The herb majorly famous for the cure of headaches due to a migraine is made up of German chamomile.

Method to use:

•    Chamomile comes like a flower and to use the flower you should buy it in dried form

•    Put two –three teaspoonfuls of chamomile flower in a cup of hot water

•    Add some honey and lemon for taste or you can have it otherwise plain form also

•    Keep this concoction for a few minutes, and then strain the liquid and enjoy a cup of this healthy variant of tea to relieve the migraine headache.

•    Alternatively, you can also use herbal tea mixture containing chamomile, horehound and meadowsweet. This mixture is used to brew a wonderful healthy tea option to treat a headache at home.
