Misoprostol 200 mcg tablet is a prescription drug widely used for medical abortion (termination of a pregnancy) and to prevent post-delivery bleeding. Misoprostol 200 mcg tablet is related to a group of medicines known as ‘Abortifacient’ and ‘Antiulcer agents’, which are often combined with mifepristone to terminate a pregnancy. This medicine is also effectively used to treat gastric or stomach ulcers and reduce the risk of ulcer complications like stomachache and bleeding.
How does Misoprostol Works?
Misoprostol 200 mcg can effectively block the natural female hormone progesterone, responsible for conceiving or successful pregnancy. This prescription drug can increase contractions of the womb (uterus) and dilate the cervix to cause abortion or expel the pregnancy. Misoprostol 200 mcg tablet can also prevent post-delivery bleeding that happens due to low contraction of the uterus. This medicine is widely recommended to treat gastric ulcers in older adults and prescribe NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including aspirin) therapy. The combination of Misoprostol and Diclofenac works as a pain reliever as it can suppress the production of chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause redness and swelling due to inflammation. It does not render any side effects that cause gastrointestinal pain or discomfort associated with NSAID treatment.
