Asthma is a chronic airway inflammatory syndrome in which there is difficulty in the airflow passage that ultimately leads to breathlessness and choking. Tremendous rise in disease have occurred over the past few decades effecting 300 million people worldwide and its prevalence is increasing day by day. About 20 million of the U.S population is suffering from Asthma.

Signs & Symptoms

There are heterogeneous signs and symptoms of ashtma such as recurrent cough, wheezing, chest tightness, difficulty in breathing especially during night and may get worsen with change in season

Asthma  Causes 

The complete reason of asthma is still unknown but there are some influential factors which elicits the condition such as genetic factor , gender, various allergens such as pollens, bacterial endotoxins present in house dust mites, cockroaches and molds, tobacco smoke, respiratory infections and chemical irritants . Aspirin and other drugs interaction ,change in season , emotional and physical exercise also triggers the condition.

Treatment

This  is incurable so the sole purpose of the treatment is to gain hold over the clinical symptoms of the disease. There are long term medicines such as corticosteroids, long term beta agonist, leukotrienes which prevents disease symptoms. On other side Quick relief drugs such as Albuterol, levabuterol short acting beta agonist can be considered as life saving or emergency drug as it provides rapid relief and is generally available in the form of inhalers or nebulizers. This therapeutic regimen reduces the signs and symptoms, and decreases the incidence of death ,therefore improves the quality of life.

Myth: People with asthma cannot play sports

Fact :No, people can play sports by keeping good control over their asthma. Activities like swimming and slow warm up and cool down periods with exercise helps them to control  work out induced asthmatic conditions.
