Doxazosin 1 mg

Doxazosin tablet 1 mg is a prescription medicine for patients with hypertension (high blood pressure). It does this by relaxing blood vessels to allow enough blood to pass through them. As a result, lowers blood pressure. The medicine contains the active substance Doxazosin which belongs to a class of drugs known as alpha-blockers, which control blood pressure and reduces the risk of severe cardiovascular complications such as strokes and myocardial infarction. It is also effective in treating symptoms caused by an enlargement of the prostate gland in men. In patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia or enlarged prostate gland, these pills reduce symptoms such as frequent passing of urine, which is quite common in patients dealing with bigger prostate size. In cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia, the alpha-blocker drug works by relaxing muscles around the bladder as well as prostate gland, which allow an easy flow of urine. Usage Instructions 

The usual dose for adults and elderly is one tablet daily that you may consume at any time of the day. Doxazosin 1 mg is ideal for those who are taking it for the first time. Your doctor may increase the dose to 2 mg daily after a couple of weeks. The maximum dose for the treatment of high blood pressure is 16 mg. If you are being treated for benign prostatic hyperplasia, your doctor may increase your dose up to 8 mg once daily. If you are still not sure, consult your doctor. For maximum effects, it is important to keep taking the tablet. This help to control your blood pressure. Do not discontinue the treatment without consulting your doctor.  

Precautions

Avoid use for hypertension in geriatric patients as it may put these patients at high risk of orthostatic hypotension. Therefore, gradual adjustments are recommended in such cases. This medicine contains Doxazosin as an active ingredient. Do not take medicines such as Cardura XL, Doxadura, or Cardura if you are allergic to doxazosin or any other inactive ingredients in the medicine. Keep the drug out of reach of children. In case of overdose, immediately contact your doctor. Use it with caution if you are already suffering from liver disease or have a recent stroke. Check for prostate cancer before initiating the treatment. Initially, the drug may cause sudden loss of consciousness or fainting. It may increase your risk of dizziness especially on getting up from a sitting or a lying position. If you are receiving the alpha-blocker drug, you may be more likely to deal with low blood pressure, dry mouth, and urinary complications (if an elderly). Some men may experience a painful erection that remains for hours and which is unrelieved by sexual intercourse. However, the side effect is rare and occurs once in every several thousand patients. Concomitant use of other antihypertensive agents may bring hypotensive effects. The drug is not recommended for use in females or for lowering high blood pressure.
