Dronis-P 4 mg is a birth control pill to be used in adolescent and adult women. It is a progestin-only tablet and does not carry estrogen. The medicine's active ingredient is Drospirenone, which affects the process of ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary during a menstrual cycle). Drospirenone works by preventing the release of the egg from the ovary and, hence, pregnancy. These tablets may also be called mini pills.
Dronis-P 4 mg should not be given to females who are allergic to Drospirenone or any other component of this oral contraceptive, including any non-medicinal ingredient. Also, the medication is contraindicated in patients with adrenal insufficiency, kidney impairment, undiagnosed abnormal uterine bleeding, hepatic insufficiency, liver tumors, benign or malignant, as well as the presence of a history of cervical cancer or progestin-sensitive cancer.
Dronis-P should not be given to women of reproductive age. The medicine is not meant to be used before menarche.
Drospirenone is only prescribed to prevent pregnancy and is not administered in postmenopausal women.
Certain medications may interact with Drosperinone and cause unwanted effects. These include:
- Medications to treat fungal infections
- Antibiotics
- Anticonvulsants
- Immunosuppressors
- HIV medicines
- Antihypertensive agents
- Potassium-sparing diuretics
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- John's wort
Speak to your healthcare provider for more information about drug interaction.

How to use the Drospirenone tablet?
Dronis-P should be taken by women who are not currently using any hormonal birth control method (day 1 start). Before starting this product, it is important to consider the possibility of ovulation and conception. One Dronis-P 4 mg tablet is swallowed as a whole once a day. You are advised to take one tablet daily for 24 consecutive days. Take the first tablet on the first day of menses. Take subsequent tablets once a day for a total of 24 days. It is best to take the tablet at the same time daily so that the interval between the two tablets is 24 hours. It is important to take the medicine exactly as your healthcare provider prescribes. You may feel sick and nauseous, especially during the initial few weeks of taking the medicine, but do not discontinue treatment. The problems will usually be resolved on their own. If your condition does not improve, speak to your doctor to seek further advice.
If one pill is missed, take it as soon as possible. Continue to take one tablet daily until the pack is finished. There is no need for backup conception in this case. If you missed two or more of these tablets, take the last pill immediately and continue with the regular dosing schedule. Missing pills can also cause spotting or light bleeding even after taking the missed tablet later.
Some women missed periods on hormonal birth control pills, even in the absence of pregnancy. However, if you miss a period and have not taken Dronis-P as instructed, or missed two menstrual cycles in a row, or suspected pregnancy, speak to your healthcare specialist. If you get a positive pregnancy test, you should stop taking Drosperinone.
If you get diarrhea or vomit within 3 to 4 hours of taking the contraceptive pill, be sure to take a new pill from the package within 12 hours of the usual time you take the tablet, if possible. Be sure to take the remaining pills as scheduled. If these adverse effects persist for more than one day, your contraceptive medicine may not work as well. If you have sexual intercourse within a week after one or more days of these adverse effects, use a backup contraception such as condoms or spermicide.
