Gabapin 800 mg is a prescription treatment used for the management of epilepsy in stabilized patients. Epilepsy is a condition where an affected individual experiences seizures. Gabapentin is the main active ingredient of the drug and is an anticonvulsant medicine that got the US Food and Drug Administration's approval. It was originally discovered as a muscle relaxant and an anti-spasmodic. However, later, it was recognized as a potential anticonvulsive drug and can be used in combination with more potent anticonvulsant drugs. Gabapin also proves beneficial in managing certain types of neural pain (a type of pain caused by damage to the nerves) and psychiatric disorders. The exact mechanism of Gabapentin is not known, but it is thought to control brain chemicals that send signals to nerves to help manage seizures or neuropathic pain.
Precaution with Gabapin 800 mg
Do not take Gabapin 800 mg tablet if you are allergic to Gabapentin or any other ingredients in this medicine.
Talk to your healthcare provider before taking Gabapin tablet if the following applies to you:
- If you suffer from kidney disease, your healthcare provider may prescribe a different dosing schedule.
- If you develop symptoms of an inflamed pancreas, including persistent stomach pain, feeling sick, and being sick
- If you are on dialysis
- If you have respiratory or nervous system disorders or you are over 65 years old.
- If you have ever abused or been dependent on prescription drugs or alcohol
- If you are pregnant. Gabapin 800 mg can be used during the first trimester of pregnancy if necessary. If you have epilepsy and you become pregnant, you mustn't discontinue treatment without your healthcare provider's instructions. Worsening of epilepsy may put you and your child at high risk.
- If you are breastfeeding, Gabapin 800 mg is passed on through breast milk because the effect on the baby is not known; mothers are advised not to breastfeed while taking the medicine.
- Cases of abuse and dependence have been reported in patients who are receiving Gabapin 800 mg. Very few people who are being treated with antiepileptics, including Gabapentin, have had thoughts of harming or killing themselves. If such thoughts ever occur, seek immediate medical help. Coadministration with opioids may contribute to sedation, sleepiness, a decrease in breathing, and death.
- If Gabapin 800 mg and antacids containing magnesium and aluminum are consumed at the same time, absorption of your anticonvulsant drug from the stomach may be reduced. Therefore, Gabapin 800 mg tablet must be taken at least two hours after taking an antacid.
- The medication is not expected to interact with other antiepileptic medicine or the oral contraceptive pill.
- The medication may cause drowsiness, dizziness, and tiredness. One must avoid driving, operating complex machinery, or participating in other potentially hazardous activities until one knows whether the anticonvulsant drug affects your ability to do these activities.
