Gatilox 0.3% contains the active ingredient Gatifloxacin ophthalmic solution. It is prescribed to treat bacterial conjunctivitis (infection of the eye). It is effective for patients one year of age or older. Gatifloxacin provides symptomatic relief by stopping the growth of the causative microorganisms. It prevents the bacteria from multiplying, ultimately stopping the action. This reduces symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis, which includes redness of the eye, burning, itching, sensation, sticky discharge, swollen eye, mild pain or discomfort in the eye.

 What precautions should be taken?

Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Gatifloxacin or other quinolones should not use Gatiflox eye drop 0.3%.  Prolonged usage may result in the overgrowth of the causative bacteria. Consider treatment discontinuation in case of superinfection. You should not wear contact lenses if you have signs of bacterial conjunctivitis or during the entire course of treatment. It is unknown whether the ophthalmic solution is excreted in breast milk. Because many pharmaceutical agents are excreted in human milk, caution should be taken when this antibacterial eye drop is administered to nursing women. The product is unsafe to use in infants. Consult your doctor for more information.
