Mignar 25mg

Mignar 25mg tablets contain Miglitol, an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor for oral use in managing non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. The antidiabetic agent treats Type 2 diabetes, especially in patients whose blood sugar levels are not adequately controlled by diet and exercise alone. Individuals with Type 2 diabetes either do not produce enough insulin, or the insulin production in the body cannot function well. Miglitol slows down the digestion of carbohydrates from your diet, reducing the abnormally high glucose levels in your bloodstream that occur after each meal. Your doctor may prescribe Mignar in combination with other antidiabetic medicines, and the treatment should be followed with a strict diet and exercise regimen to get the best possible effect. This medicine is a part of a treatment program that should include a healthy diet, regular exercise and weight reduction as advised by your doctor. The antidiabetic agent is not recommended for use in children. Lowering blood sugar is an essential part of managing diabetes mellitus. If you successfully control blood glucose levels, you will automatically reduce the risk of getting any of the serious complications associated with diabetes, such as eye damage, kidney impairment/failure, nerve problems, and loss of limbs.

How to use (infographics and instructions)

There is no fixed dosing regimen for the management of diabetes with Mignar tablets or any other antidiabetic agent. You need to follow your doctor’s instructions when it comes to taking Miglitol tablets. You should swallow the tablet whole with a drink of water. Do not break or crush the tablet. It is best to take it with food. For more information, please consult your doctor.

Precautions (warning, allergy, things to remember)

Mignar does not cause low blood sugar levels or hypoglycaemia. However, when used along with other diabetes medicines, especially insulin or sulphonylureas, it can lead to hypoglycaemia. Such episodes of low blood sugar levels can be treated with plain glucose. Miglitol may not suit you if you suffer from heart, kidney, liver, adrenal, or pituitary disease. Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is not recommended to take this antidiabetic agent if you are allergic to any content of this medicine. You should not take Mignar 25 mg if you are suffering from intestinal problems such as ulcers, inflammation, hernia, uncontrolled diabetes, severe infections, severe dehydration, and a recent history of a heart attack. Diabetes medicine should be used with caution in older people as they may require dose adjustment. The medicine may interact with alcohol and worsen your condition; therefore, it is best to stop alcohol consumption while taking an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor.

Side effects of Mignar 25 mg

You should take Mignar 25 mg exactly as prescribed by your doctor. This helps to avoid possible side effects associated with the incorrect use of this diabetes medicine.  Common side effects of Miglitol are flatulence, diarrhoea, discomfort, and abdominal pain. Keep hard candies, glucose tablets, or liquid glucose on hand to manage episodes of hypoglycaemia.
