Ondem MD 8 mg is a prescription treatment for nausea and vomiting related to chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or other surgery. It is used to maintain anti-emesis following an intravenous dose of Ondansetron, which is also used to prevent nausea and vomiting related to chemotherapy, including cisplatin. Ondem MD 8 contains the active ingredient Ondansetron, an antiemetic that helps to stop you from feeling or being sick.
Precaution with Ondansetron tablet
Ondem MD 8 mg should not be given to kids to prevent post-radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. It is contraindicated in women with a history of hypersensitivity to the medicine or any other components of this formulation. Co-administration of Ondansetron and apomorphine is contraindicated, as there were reports of hypotension and loss of consciousness when apomorphine was used with Ondem MD-8 mg.
Talk to your healthcare provider if you:
- Suffer from severe constipation
- Have surgery for the adenoids or tonsils
- Have liver problems
- Have an uneven heartbeat
- Have Congestive heart failure contributes to shortness of breath
- Have potassium, sodium, and magnesium levels in your bloodstream
Ondem MD tablets may interact with others and have an effect on other drugs, and other medications may have an effect on Ondansetron. Let your healthcare specialist know if you are taking or have
recently taken other medicines. This includes even medications that you get without a prescription. Let your doctor know if you are taking any of the following:
- Tramadol to treat pain
- Medicines to treat epilepsy (carbamazepine, phenytoin)
- Medicines that affect the heart, including methadone or haloperidol
- An antibiotic called Rifampicin is used for the treatment of infections such as tuberculosis
- Antidepressants, including duloxetine, venlafaxine
- Other medicines for depression include fluvoxamine, paroxetine, escitalopram, citalopram, and sertraline.
- Cancer medications include daunorubicin, doxorubicin, and monoclonal antibodies such as trastuzumab.
- Antibiotics such as ketoconazole or erythromycin
Women during their first trimester of pregnancy should not take Ondem MD 8 mg. If you think you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, discuss the risks and benefits of taking the medicine before taking Ondansetron. Sexually active women are advised to use effective contraception during treatment with Ondem MD 8 mg tablet. Do not breastfeed while you are taking this antiemetic medicine, and take medical advice before taking this medicine.
Side effects of Ondanstron tablet
Inform your healthcare professional if you develop any adverse effects or allergic reactions from Ondem MD 8 mg. The most reported side effects are dry mouth, hiccups, constipation, diarrhea, a sensation of warmth or flushing, headache, and mild stomach cramps. These are all mild effects and resolve on their own, and there is no need to discontinue treatment unless you are concerned.
Seek immediate help if you notice any of the following adverse effects:
- Wheezy symptoms
- Chest pain or feeling of tightness in the chest
- Fits or convulsions
- Low blood pressure
- Skin rash, lumps, or hives
- Swelling the eyelids, face, mouth, lips, or throat may cause trouble breathing or swallowing.
These all are serious side effects for which you may need medical attention. Contact your doctor immediately if you feel unwell or develop any symptoms.
How to use Ondansetron tablet?
The daily dose of patients with moderate to severe liver disease should not exceed 8 mg. Take this medicine strictly as your healthcare specialist prescribes. The dose usually depends on the treatment you are receiving. Make sure you do not take more tablets than prescribed. In case you vomit within an hour of taking the Ondansetron tablet, you are advised to take the same dose again. However, if you continue to vomit, inform your healthcare specialist. Swallow each pill with a sip of water. Avoid crushing the tablet. If you find trouble swallowing the pill, please get in touch with your healthcare specialist. You should not discontinue treatment or change the dose without first checking with your healthcare professional.
If you miss a dose and do not feel sick, take your next dose as scheduled. If you skip a dose and feel sick, take the missed dose as soon as you remember and then return to your Ondansetron dose as scheduled. If it is almost time to take the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose as prescribed.
