Pantocid 20 mg is used for the treatment of stomach acid-related problems. It contains the active ingredient pantoprazole, which is categorized under the class of drugs called proton pump inhibitors. It works by reducing the amount of acid the stomach produces to provide symptomatic relief and allow healing to occur.
Pantocid 20 mg treats:
- Stomach ulcer - Also known as Gastric ulcer, stomach ulcer is an open sore that develops in the lining of your stomach.
- Duodenal ulcer - A duodenal ulcer develops in the duodenum, a tube leading out of the stomach. A duodenal ulcer caused by the bacteria H.pylori.
- Gastrointestinal reflux disease (GERD) - It is a condition in which acid backs up into the esophagus. It brings a burning sensation in the chest that reaches the throat, causing heartburn.
- Reflux esophagitis - Pantocid is also used to prevent severe heartburn.
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome - During this condition, the stomach releases very large amounts of acid, much more than in reflux disease and ulcers.
This medicine also effectively prevents ulcers associated with using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These medications relieve swelling, pain, and other inflammatory symptoms, including arthritis.
Precautions (Things to remember, allergies, and warnings)
Inform your healthcare provider before consuming Pantocid 20 mg:
- If you are allergic to the drug or other histamine blockers.
- If you have kidney disorders, asthma, or chronic obstructive disease (COPD).
- If you have had gastric ulcers for a long time, do not stop using Pantocid without consulting your healthcare provider.
- Be careful while giving Pantoprazole to older adults, as older adults may be more sensitive to the adverse reactions of the drug, especially confusion.
- The medicine is not intended for children younger than 12 years old. Consult your physician before giving Panticid to children younger than 12 years.
- Do not drive during the treatment with Pantoprazole. You may experience drowsiness while driving a vehicle. Avoid engaging in complex motor activities, as these require your complete attention.
- Avoid taking Pantocid if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. One should discuss the risks and benefits of having Famocid tablets during pregnancy with their healthcare specialists.
- Women who are breastfeeding speak to their healthcare provider before consuming Pantocid tablets. Gastrointestinal medicine can pass into breast milk.
Some of the commonly reported side effects related to the administration of Pantocid tablets include dizziness, constipation, diarrhea, muscle cramps, headache, nausea, joint pain, and vomiting.
Some serious side effects related to the administration of Pantoprazole are fever, chills, seizures, depression, hallucinations, restlessness, sore throat, confusion, and slow-fast or irregular heartbeat. Seek immediate medical help if any side effects persist longer or become bothersome.
Pantocid is present in the tablet form. Swallow the tablet with a full glass of water. Take the tablet as long as recommended by your healthcare specialist. Do not change the dosing regimen. Take it exactly as it has been prescribed. Immediately seek medical help in the case of an overdose of Famotidine. If you miss the Pantocid dose, take it as soon as possible. But if it is already time to take the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not discontinue the treatment without the consent of your healthcare provider.
