Pyridium 200mg
Pyridium 200mg is prescribed to relieve pain, burning, frequency, urgency, and other discomforts resulting from irritation of the mucosa of the lower urinary tract caused by trauma, infection, endoscopic procedures, surgery, or the passage of sounds or catheters. It contains the active ingredient Phenazopyridine, which provides symptomatic relief during the interval before microbial therapy controls the infection. The treatment should not exceed two days because of potential organ damage.
Precautions of Pyridium 200 mg (warning, allergy, things to remember)
Pyridium 200mg is contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to the drug and its ingredients. It should not be used in patients with renal insufficiency or liver disease. Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have G-6 PD deficiency and other medical problems. Talk to your doctor if you take any other medication, including those you get without a prescription. Especially inform of doctor about taking Ciprofloxacin. Phenazopyridine should not be used in patients under 18 years of age.
Side effects of Pyridium 200 mg
Pyridium 200 mg may cause side effects, especially when used for longer or in larger doses. When these side effects occur, you may require medical help. Report all the side effects to your doctor. Other side effects include headache, stiff neck, visual disturbances, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, yellow discolouration of the skin, and whites of the eyes with or without itchy skin. Check with your doctor immediately if you develop fever, chills, muscle aches, pains, or other flu-like symptoms, swelling of throat, tongue, and neck, especially if they occur before or with a skin rash. These signs may be the first signs of serious allergic reactions associated with this medicine. Inform your doctor immediately if any side effects become bothersome or do not resolve within a few days or if you develop any other symptoms while taking Pyridium.
How to use (infographics and instructions)
The usual dose is Pyridium 200 mg three times a day after meals. For best results, take medicine as directed by your doctor. Please do not take more of this medicine, and do not take it more often or longer than your doctor has recommended. Usually, doctors prescribe the lowest dose of this medicine for the shortest period. Taking too much of this medicine may increase your chance of unwanted side effects that may be life-threatening, especially if you are elderly or have another disease. If you will be using Phenazopyridine for more than two days, see your doctor to discuss whether this medicine is working for you or causing any undesirable side effects.
