Simvastatin is a commonly prescribed medicine for treating “bad” cholesterol and fats in the body. The medicine raises “good” cholesterol level in the blood if taken correctly or as advised by the doctor. Simvastatin inhibits cholesterol production in the liver and lower fat and cholesterol content in the blood; the drug works effectively by reducing cholesterol amount in the body made by the liver. Simvastatin belongs to a class of drug known as “statins”. The medicine prevents heart disease such as stroke and heart attacks. Simvastatin works best when taken with proper diet and regular exercise. Your doctor can prescribe this medicine alone or combined with another drug.
Usage Indication
The oral tablet is recommended to take by mouth with or without food with a glass of normal water once a day, preferably in the evening after dinner. Measure the medicine quantity well if you are taking Simvastatin in a liquid form, shake the bottle well before each dose. Your doctor will set the dose based on your health condition and response to treatment. Inform your doctor about your medical history, current medications, and health supplement you take. Do not stop the treatment in between even if you feel better. Talk to your doctor and mention him your health condition, he will decide the dose alternation and treatment duration as he feels fine based on your health condition. Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as it can increase the health risk. Try to take medicine at the same time daily to avoid missing the dose. The medicine may take up to 4 weeks to shows its full benefits.
Precaution
Do not take this medicine if you are allergic or hypersensitive to Simvastatin or any of its ingredient. The patient who has or had any liver disorder should not take Simvastatin. Pregnant woman, breastfeeding mom, or planning to become a pregnant woman is also not recommended for this medicine. Do not take Simvastatin if you are taking Antifungal medicine, HIV medicine, antibiotics, or antidepressants medicines.

People with diabetes, liver problem or old age may experience serious side effects of this medicine.
